Blurb

Hello, this blog covers all the research and planning into our slasher film opening, Camp Ivy. Co-produced with Kate and Millie, and influenced from films such as Friday the 13th and set in a rural location inspired by Eden Lake.

Shoot - Sunday 17th

set up for a group shot
We did a shoot on Sunday the 17th of Feb. We tried to get as much footage as possible as it involves a lot of travel to get too.

The shoot was quite successful and we found it quite easy to find good locations there for certain shots and good framing ideas. However, some more planning might have been more helpful when trying to direct actors and explain what we were trying to achieve.

For all our stationery shots we used a tripod to keep the shot as steady as possible. For our moving shots, for example a stalking shot, we probably would have benefited from having the fig rig so we could get the shot more steady yet still give the impression of it being a point of view shot.

We were at the location for approximately 3 hours, but a lot of the time was spent working out the perfect place to shoot each shot. This is the kind of thing we could have done if we had been up to the location as a group  before the shoot and worked out. That way we could have reduced the time we were filming and got more shots done in the time we had. This probably would have made the day run a bit more smoothly.

Due to the actors not all coming at once we had to shoot the shots in a certain order so that we could save time and not waste anyone's time who had volunteered to be in it. Because of this it would have made sense to shoot the killing scenes first as the actor playing the killer was available all day, but due to the fake blood staining clothes and wanting the scream queen to look muddy and dishevelled, it still made sense to film that last. This meant there was some time wasted time waiting for people to arrive that could have been put to better use getting even more shot variety and extra shots to use as cutaway shots etc.
